FAQ

dxTop is force-closing
With the number of phones out there, I can't test every scenario. If your having force-close issues, try removing widgets to see if it's actually a widget that is causing the problem. dxTop has a built in log collection tools so that when it crashes, you can send me the phone's diagnostic log as an email

Why are my icons slowly appearing?
dxTop loads icons in the background so that your not waiting for them to load before dxTop allows you to access screens and tabs. This allows for quicker access to dxTop but may mean you'll see icons to load as you access things before dxTop has had time to load them. This is one reason other home apps lag so much when you try to return to them after using another app.

dxTop crashes at startup and now I can't access my phone
Hold down the menu button on the phone while turning it on and keep it on until the lock screen pops up. This will boot the phone is safe mode and will run the original home app. If you just upgraded your phone to firmware 1.5, reinstall dxTop as the upgrade breaks some of dxTop's permissions.

dxTop is force-closing after firmware upgrade or after uninstall the demo version
Uninstall and then Install dxTop.

How do I backup my screen icons?
dxTop is compatible with all the backup apps that backup the icons on the standard Home screen. Just use a backup app like MyBackup.

dxTop slows down the entire phone
This is a sign that your phone is very low on memory and dxTop is unable to releasing enough resources to make your phone run smooth. The fix for this is to disable persistent mode. If you have apps that you don't need that run in the background, you should uninstall them so they don't run and take up memory.

The Theme and Wallpaper options are gone when I long press the screen
The Theme and Wallpaper options have been moved to the "Appearance" menu option that pops up when you press the menu button on the phone. It was moved because it didn't make sense to find an empty part of the screen to change these.

Where is the dock and how do I add apps to it
If you swipe the tabs to the side, the dock slides in to take their place. To add apps to the dock, long press on it.

I purchased dxTop for the website but when I download it to my phone it says the file isn't supported
Because of the service I'm using, the android web browser downloads the file as a binary file instead of an android application file. Follow these steps to download and install dxTop

  1. Download and install "Linda File Manager" from the android market.
  2. Download dxTop using the link from the email when you purchased dxTop. The file downloaded will be called #####.bin where the # are numbers.
  3. Click on the file after it has finished downloading and the Linda File Manager will open.
  4. Find #####.bin in the list of files on the bottom half of the Linda File Manager screen and press it. A menu should pop up asking you how you want to open the file. Pick Package Installer from the menu

After I install, I press the Home button but It still doesn't start dxTop
Open the phone settings, pick applications, then Manage applications, then find "Home" and click it to open it. Now click the "Clear defaults" button. Now when you press Home on the phone, you should see dxTop as an option.

Where is the center/home screen? What's going on?
The center/home screen is now the top screen and is always accessible by swiping down. There are now 4 screens, a top, bottom, left and right one. Don't think about the screen you were just on, only think about the screen you want to go to. If you want to go to the top screen, drag down; If you want to go to the left screen, drag right; If you want to go to the right screen, drag left; If you want to the bottom screen, drag up. Don't try to go back to a screen, always go forward to the screen you want.

What's up with the second tab
There are now two tray handles for viewing applications. The left tray is the existing all application view we are all used to.
The other new tray is a view that shows a combination of apps you have recently run (most recent on top) along with currently running apps. It even shows what apps are running as services. The recent/running apps tray color codes the application name as follows:

* Red = Application is currently running
* Yellow = Application is not running, but it is running as a service
* White = Application is not running anymore
